random notes (new year's day edition)

The Christmas tree (the first fake one of my life...image in a previous post) has been denuded, deconstructed, and placed back into the box it came from (and that box has been shoved onto a shelf in the garage.)

The Christmas cards have been taken down from the mantle and bookshelves and the Xmas knick-knacks and fuzzy creatures have been put into boxes and bags and stored wherever space presented itself.

The burgeoning collection of holiday CDs have been returned to their shadowy corner of the CD rack in my bedroom.

The lights are down from the eaves and the wreath is off the front door.

A new day...a new year...time to let the holiday season go (we can do it again in...oh, let's say 11 months or so.)

January 1st is a good day to go grocery shopping. A handful of things are missing from the shelves but the fact that you have the store almost to yourself (just a couple of other enterprising shoppers with no interest in the Rose Parade or the Rose Bowl game and a handful of employees who somehow got roped into working on what used to be a retail holiday.)

Cool, blue, and gorgeous weather on the 1st day of January is just one really good reason to live in San Diego. (It rained yesterday and it's supposed to rain tomorrow but today...today is a glorious winter's day.)

*****

Thanks to many years of holiday marathons, I think that I really have seen every episode of "The Twilight Zone" now (that Rod Serling still looks pretty suave after all of these years in glorious black and white...may the universe bless and keep you, SciFi Channel.)
